My main platform is on Instagram where I show a plethora of items I pick up throughout the year. I hardly ever really mention what products I just wasn’t happy with, so i thought i would write a blogpost all about products I have purchased that I regretted. I know that some of these may work for you but for me and my needs, I found them to be products I couldn’t work with.
Marc Jacobs Coconut Primer.
I was really excited when I received this. It was summer time and it smelled like coconut which reminded me of the beach and vacation. Well when I finally used it I couldn’t believe that I had literally sprayed my face with what seemed like a damn hose. It was insane how bad the nozzle was. I have actually tried to put the primer in other bottles but I’m not sure if it’s the nozzle or the formula itself- but i wasn’t happy with it.
Tom Ford Lipsticks.
I just want to say there is absolutely nothing wrong with the formula. It is truly incredible- and the packaging is to die for! However! If this isn’t something you’re going to use on a daily basis – and I mean daily! Then save your dollars. They tend to go bad so fast. Faster than my other high end and even drugstore lipsticks. Why? I have no idea. But I have stopped buying them (it’s been a year now) and will be VERY conscious of the ones I do decide to buy, if I decide to buy any, in the future.
Kylie Cosmetics Palettes, Lip Kit Sets.
I have to say that I am an absolute fan of her Pumpkin liquid lip kit. It is by far one of my favorites, the color is absolutely flattering on my skintone. When her collection first released I was so excited that I fell into the hype. I picked up her Bronze and Burgundy Palettes – her Holiday 2016 Palette – and both her kylie lip sets and KKW lip sets. I hardly ever reach for them. I prefer other palettes in my collection to those. Both of the lip sets mentioned were too light and I just wasn’t a fan. I have decluttered most of it from my collection and have now learned that I will not fall into her hype again.
Too Faced Sweet Peach Glow Palette.
This was another product that I fell into the hype for. If I had been honest with myself, I wouldn’t have picked it up solely because of the scent. I honestly hated it and did not know it would smell the way it did. I picked up the eyeshadow palette blindly and only found out about the smell after I had it. The palette was too beautiful to let go, but this one was out the door after a couple of months. Aside from the scent, I didn’t like the shades on me. I reached for others items (even my papa don’t Peach blush) over this one, so I decided to let it go.
Too Faced Sweet Peach Lip Glosses.
Yup, again with the TF Sweet Peach collection lol this time the glosses! I tried to use them at the beginning of this year but I just couldn’t do it. I decided to part with them because again, I couldn’t stand the scent. I now know better that if I don’t like a scent, I don’t need to force myself to like it.
MILK Makeup Highlighter and Blush.
I picked both of these up in the shades: Lit (highlight) and Perk (blush) around January this year. I was initially excited about these but after discovering NARS multiples, I just didn’t reach for these anymore. Compared to the multiples, these were a lot stiffer and they actually moved around my foundation when I attempted to apply them. They also just weren’t practical to glide right on since they are huge. Since I’ve made the investment I’ll continue to try to use them but I don’t foresee myself picking up any others from this brand.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Vol. 3 palette
This was an item i picked up during the spring VIB sale. I was initially excited about it and even used it a couple of times before realizing that the shimmer shades in other palettes were way better than these. These were stiff and were harder to apply with a brush. My Morphe 35F palette and even my Chocolate Gold palette by Too Faced outperform this palette. I decluttered it maybe a month or two ago after hardly reaching for it.
Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer.
I really forced myself to try to like this because it smells so damn good but the reality was that it looked like absolutely nothing on my skin. Literally, nothing. The shade Bronzer (the darker option) was ridiculous considering I’m not even very tan in the grand scheme of skin tones and it didn’t show up on me at all. I decluttered it immediately and I am hoping their new colors work better for those of us who aren’t fair/slightly tan.
Phew! That was a longer list than I expected but I did come across items I regretted purchasing this year. You wanna know what that means? That 2018 will be the year of conscious buying and hopefully using up some of the items I did like.
What are products you regret buying?! Let me know!!
Till next time…
