As I was gathering some pink items from my makeup collection to take a photo of for instragram I began to notice some items in there that I hadn’t touched in quite a while. While I do try my hardest to use as many products as I can on a weekly basis (this has been a fun thing for me to do since January), I noticed some things that hadn’t made it into my makeup rotation –
actually – hardly even used and thats just absurd! To be fair, once I curate my makeup bag for the week, I seldom go back into my full makeup storage to pick items since I’ve already done so. The only items I switch consistently are lip products and even then, some tend to get overlooked. So, I decided to gather up a few things that have been regretfully collecting dust and I will incorporate these things (not all at once, for obvious reasons) into my weekly rotations in order to get use out of them.
The first palette I noticed in my drawer that I have not used in what feels like quite a long time is my Tartelette Toasted palette. I believe I may have used this palette a record 5 times since its release and haven’t come back to it since. I remember it getting fairly good reviews and I am really disappointed that I haven’t used it more. By now I have had my fare share of warm eyeshadow palettes but this one is one of the few that has mostly warm tones and that is perfect for me. I cannot wait to use this bad boy!
The second palette I haven’t really touched in a while is the Marc Jacobs Scandalust eyeshadow palette. Now, I’ve used this one many more times than Tarte’s however I haven’t touched it in months! I need to bring it back out because the reformulated palettes are so much nicer than the previous MJ shadow palettes. I remember picking up about 2 of those and decluttered them. These are really nice so I need to put them to use.
Face Palette / Blush Palette / Contour Palette.
I’m not sure if anyone is aware of this, but: I am a MASSIVE face palette fan. For real, it is one of the few makeup items that makes me go weak in the knees. There is something about having several products all in one that just excites me. However, I assume that excitement just goes down the drain because I hardly reach for them but I’ve built a good-sized collection of them. One of the ones that is perfect for the Spring/Summer months is Charlotte Tilbury’s Beauty Glow. I am absolutely in love with it. I own all of her instant look in a palettes and this one has to be my favorite. With tan, sun-kissed skin this looks absolutely gorgeous. I need to add it to my rotation.
One of my favorite but least used purchases has to be the NARS Bord de Plage palette. It’s absolutely stunning in presentation but I’ve really only used this beauty once – so I couldn’t even tell you whether I think it’s a must have or not. I am excited to incorporate it soon and share my thoughts. It’s a stunner and I’ve heard good things about it but I’m ready to form my own opinion!
The Tarteist Pro Glow Palette was one I remember picking up during a Black Friday sale in Houston. I may be wrong but i feel like thats when I picked it up. Anyway, I really enjoy using this palette when I remember to use it. I remember some not being a fan of the cream bronzer, however I like it enough to not have picked up a new Soleil de Chanel bronzer.. this one just does it for me. I think the powder bronzer is great and the highlight shades are very luminizing. I need to remember to use this one because the cream bronzer surely will go bad.
The Sephora Collection Contour Blush Palette isn’t a palette I’ve had for too long however its one I’ve only used once since picking up and thats a darn shame. It’s got beautiful shades in it that can be mixed together or worn separately. What I like about it is that the colors aren’t too light for my skin tone – and if they are, they can be mixed with the darker options in this palette. I feel that these often get overlooked by more exciting brand-name blush palettes but they have fairly good reviews on Sephora’s website (and i can vouch for them). I also have another one of these blush palettes so I’m excited to add them to my rotation.
The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea lipsticks came out a couple of months back and I quickly picked up 3 shades of them. They are creamy, pigmented, and dry down to a semi-matte finish that isn’t uncomfortable but doesn’t come off too easily. I haven’t worn them in a LONG time. Why? I’m not sure. I have decluttered a ton of lipsticks since then so my collection is smaller (but still big, IMO) and I still don’t find myself reaching for them. To be honest, this is the case with a lot of my lipsticks but these stood out because of their packaging. I tend to get comfortable with using the same shades and really need to rotate my lipsticks.
I can also say the same for my Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick in the shade Adrienne. I remember seeing Anna from The Anna Edit mention this shade in several of her youtube videos and I decided that it would have to do since my beloved Julia is nowhere to be found. Again, though, I continue to overlook it for others in my collection. Why? I don’t know, but I need to start using them because lipsticks go bad the fastest, I feel.
There are quite a few products in my collection I keep overlooking but want to put in my weekly makeup rotations in order to get more use out of them. I know that some of these are definitely keeps because I love them, I just haven’t gotten around to adding them to my weekly picks, and there are some I haven’t used in a while and need to re-visit so that I know whether to keep them or let them go.
What are products in your collection that often get overlooked? Are they from a certain category or are there overlooked products from different categories? How do you remember to use them? Let me know!
