I think we were all pleasantly surprised when Sephora announced that they would be having a Beauty Insider Appreciation Event Haul that included 20% off for VIB Rouge, 15% off for VIBs, and 10% for BI. They only have this event 2 times a year: during the Spring and during the holidays, so this one left us all wondering… huh?! But we’ll take it!
But this post isn’t about that, I’m here today to talk about all of the things I splurged on! I always use these events as a way to treat myself to things I wouldn’t have normally gotten if I didn’t have a coupon to save some money. So, when I tell you that I went HAM, well… I went HAM.
There were a couple of items I repurchased during the sale that I happened to need and it was perfect timing. I received the Ole Henrikson Counter Balance Oil Control Hydrator from Octoly, and didn’t use it right away since I received it during the winter and have normal skin. When the summer started rolling in, I brought this back out and needless to say: I LOVE it! I think its great for people with oily skin: it provides the perfect amount of hydration without making you feel that you’re still oily. Do I make sense? I loved it enough to purchase a second bottle during this sale. In Texas, it’ll be summer until November, so I still have some time to use this up!
I also repurchased the IGK Mistress Hydrating Hair Balm. I’ve gone into depth into why I really love using this hair balm, so I will link that blog post HERE, but this is my 3rd bottle of it and I am OBSESSED. First of all, the scent is to die for: it smells of coconut, but not over-the-top. It helps to de tangle and I’ve gotten compliments on my hair’s scent because of it!
I also picked up two packs of the Sephora Rose Cleansing Wipes. I love these to take my makeup off at the end of the day and its part of my nightly routine. If you’re interested in my nighttime routine, you can check it out HERE, but I’m using different products now. However, these wipes have been consistent. They are gentle, and leave you feeling a little more hydrated than you’d want, hehe, but that’s fine by me.
The Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Serum is one I picked up after seeing Allana Davison use it on her YouTube channel. I decided to take a chance on it since I liked the idea of using it to bronze the skin and having it make you look put together without really trying.. you know, for those lazy gotta-get-to-work mornings? Anyway, I’ve been using this for a little over a week now and I absolutely love it! I’ve been mixing it with my Ole Henrikson moisturizer and I do have to comment that it leaves my skin feeling like it needs a bit more hydration. This may be because the serum is a little thicker than others, but I’ve been applying two pumps of moisturizer instead of my usual 1.5. I’ve tried applying this serum on its own, apart from my moisturizer, to see how it would apply and it was a little scary! It looked very dark on my skin, but once I applied my other face products it was fine. I think if you’re looking for something to keep you feeling bronzed and summery, this is it. It also states that it can be used on the body but ill be the first to tell you: DO NOT DO THAT. Why? Because its hella expensive and its not a lot of product. I had been eyeing the Sol de Janeiro Glow Oil, and played with it in-store.. now THAT I would recommend for your body! It is gorgeous and now I want to go back and get it…. stop it, Denise!
The Hourglass Cosmetics Scattered Light Eyeshadows were such a standout product to me! It’s weird because I had seen promo pics for it on their Instagram page and on Trendmood’s as well, but I wasn’t bothered at all. Then, I believe I saw my friend Michelle talk about them and I added them to my list. The first shade I was interested in was Blaze, but it was out of stock online. When I was shopping in-store I happened to see them (the app told me they weren’t available near me) and I swatched away… then I came home with 3. Oops. I just want to say that of all the single, shimmer, glittery eyeshadows I own: these are by far the softest I’ve used. They can be built up to show the color if you’re wanting to use it on your lids, and they do not have fallout, which is important in a foil shade, I’m sure. I saw these coming in and out of stock, and seeing them sold out in other retailers, seeing the good reviews, I came back and ordered the last two. I’ve used 4 of the 5 shades so far and can tell you with honesty: I have no complaints and I am in love!
There were two palettes that I really wanted for a while but hadn’t purchased. They are the Violet Voss Flamingo Palette and the Huda Beauty Coral Obsessions palette. I couldn’t decide which of these to get, since there are similar shades in both palettes. I created a poll on my Instagram account to which Coral Obsessions won by a long shot. However, I couldn’t really decide so I picked up both.
The Coral Obsessions palette was one I came across during my second in-store trip to Sephora and after swatching it I decided to pick it up. Yes, the Flamingo palette was my first choice but now I’m excited that I caved in and got both. I’m not sure which I’ll test first, but when I do I will update on Instagram. I would also like to do some reviews on them here on the blog as well!
The Huda Beauty Rose Gold Remastered palette wasn’t something I was interested in until I played with it. I was the owner of the OG palette many moons ago until I lost it. I’m not sure if my palette was defected, but I remember the shimmer/glitter shades being so chunky it was annoying trying to get it on my lids. So, I really wouldn’t reach for it much. Then I happened to lose it somewhere and never found it again. I really like that these shimmer shades are much easier to work with. They swatched really nice and I decided to bring it home. Well, now I’m a bit nervous about it because its got horrible reviews on Sephora’s website. I know that the main complaint is that the shadows are very dent-y, they have a dent and it gets worse when you start to use them. I will use this palette this week so I can determine whether I like it or not, but based off my initial use of it at the store, its okay.
The last item I picked up was the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Crush Body Fragrance Mist. I smelled it and couldn’t leave it, it smells SO good! It’s summer in a bottle. I really enjoy it and every time I use it my husband craves an ice cream cone! Haha. It’s got a sweet scent and I’m drawn to that.
I also have the NARS Atomic Blonde pictured here, but I didn’t get it during the sale. I just couldn’t resist it after reading all the reviews on it. We’ll see how it performs after I begin to test it.
PHEW! If you have made it up to here then I just want to say THANK YOU! I know this post was lengthy, but I wanted to give mini reviews on some items ive been using for a while already. What did you pick up during the sale? Are there any last minute items I should try? Let me know!
Thanks for reading!
